Discover these wonders of the Pacific seen from the sky, encircled with their coral reef. The Society Islands are one of the 5 archipelagos of French Polynesia. To the east are the Windward Islands (Tahiti, Moorea, Maiao, Mehetia and the atoll of Tetiaroa) and to the west lie the Leeward Islands (Bora-Bora, Huahine, Maupiti, Raiatea, Tahaa and the atolls of Manuae, Maupihaa, Motu One and Tupai). The Society Islands were called so by James Cook in homage to the Royal Society of London which had financed his expedition in 1769.
