    New Caledonia makes with Loyalty Islands (Ouvéa, Lifou, Tiga and Maré), Isle of Pines and Belep Islands an overseas French territory (TOM) with an area of 18 575 km2 including 220.000 inhabitants. New Caledonia is the 3rd worldwide nickel producer (green gold).
