Located in the South Pacific Ocean, the archipelago of Fiji includes more than 300 islands, among which the biggest are Viti Levu in the west and Vanua Levu in the north. In January 2009, as other islands of the Pacific, Fiji knew strong inundations, due to the rise of the sea level. Fidji Islands were discovered in 1643 by the Dutch navigator Abel Tasman.
