Satellite view of Eiao (Marquesas Islands)

    Here is the island of Eaio, northwestern Marquesas Islands. 13 km long and 3.5 km wide, it culminates in 576 metres. In the 1970s, Eiao was sensed to host the French nuclear tests, which however went on on the atolls of Moruroa and Fangataufa until 1996. From 1962 till 1963, French reporter Georges de Caunes lived on Eiao alone with his dog.
