Satellite view of Tahuata (Marquesas Islands)

Tahuata is separated from Hiva Oa by a 3 km wide channel (move the card downwards). The island is very hilly, with 1000metre peaks, as mount Tumu Mea Ufa and mount Pahio. It shelters beaches of white sand protected by coral reefs. The Spanish navigator MendaƱa disembarked at Vaitahu bay (western side) in 1595.
