    The island you can see on this satellite view is the appeared part of an underwater 4000 metres high sleeping volcano. It culminates in Mount Fareura (435 metres) and its diameter is 1500 metres. Difficult of access, because encircled with cliffs, it is today deserted. Mehetia island was discovered by Samuel Wallis in 1767.
