    Second bigger island of The Society Islands behind Tahiti, Raiatea is bathed by the same lagoon as the island of Tahaa located in the north. It counts 11.000 inhabitants, who live mainly on agriculture and on the culture of pearl oysters wich produce the famous black pearls of Tahiti. Tahitians traditionally call this island Havai'i.
