    Tahiti is located in the South Pacific Ocean in the Society Islands. It counts more than 178.000 inhabitants for an area of about 1.000 km2. The island was discovered in 1767 by the British navigator Samuel Wallis but became French in 1842. County town : Papeete. Tahiti island is composed of 2 parts: Tahiti Nui (Big Tahiti) and Tahiti Iti (Small Tahiti).
