Located 53 km north of Tahiti, Tetiaroa is a small atoll of 6 km2 which includes 13 motu (Tahitian word for islet). Marlon Brando, fallen under the spell of this atoll during the filming of the famous Mutiny on the Bounty, bought it in 1965. A luxury hotel is going to be built on Motu Onetahi which has a landing strip (see photo).
Tetiaroa atoll was in the past the place of residence of Tahitian kings.
