Le Carbet: starting point of the colonization


     Christopher Columbus would have here unloaded June 15, 1502, discovering thus the island Martinique. In 1635, Pierre Belain d'Esnambuc accosted there with about hundred men, starting the colonization of Martinique. The name of the village comes from a Caribbean word designating a big hut.
