Mongoose in Martinique

     The mongoose: this small carnivorous mammal eats rodents and snakes. Contrary to what one affirms to the tourists, the mongoose is not immunized against the snakes venom, but its speed allows him to avoid their bite. It was introduced in Martinique to rid the island of the dangerous snakes (trigonocéphales), but made devastations among the birds and the iguanas of which it ate the eggs, involving a true ecological disaster.
