Raquette cactus or prickly pear

Saint-Anne's region in the South of Martinique is arid, and if you go for a walk on the seafront, you will cross this raquette-cactus, also named prickly pears, whose thorns are so dissuasive that the Antilleans uses these cactuses to make fences. Christopher Columbus introduced the species in Europe.
